Bells of Lazonby makes FreeFrom Food Awards Shortlist 2014
Central Foods' client, Bells of Lazonby, is delighted to announce their Cherry Bakewell Tart has been shortlisted for the category “Food Designed for Foodservice” in the prestigious FreeFrom Food Awards 2014.
The shortlist announcement comes after two weeks of extensive trialling and testing by a panel of over 50 expert judges. With the freefrom market now estimated at over £385m, a record number of entries were received - more than 350! The FreeFrom Food Awards celebrate innovation in great tasting food that is free from one or more of the allergens (including wheat, gluten, dairy, eggs, nuts, soya and sulphites) that those with allergies and food intolerances must avoid.
Michael Bell, MD of Bells of Lazonby said, “After being shortlisted in last year’s FreeFrom Awards, we are thrilled another of our products has been shortlisted this year as well! We have been making delicious gluten, wheat and dairy free cakes and slices in our dedicated bakery since 2002, and are delighted our hard work – and delicious cakes! - have been recognised by this prestigious organisation and hope these accolades will help widen availability of free-from products for everyone.”
The judging panel comprised: manufacturers, chefs and cookery writers; dietitians and nutritionists; coeliacs and allergy sufferers, as well as freefrom and gluten-free bloggers. Between them, the judges tasted products from 16 categories including a number of new ones for 2014 such as breakfast and after dinner foods.
Michelle Berriedale-Johnson, who chairs the judging sessions, says “We’d like to congratulate Bells of Lazonby and all those that have been shortlisted. The FreeFrom Food Awards have been instrumental in driving new product development and improving the quality and choice of freefrom foods that are available, and the products on the list this year highlight this success. Judging was therefore incredibly difficult but at the same time incredibly satisfying too.” The winners will be announced at a ceremony in London on Tuesday 25th March.
