Bread has been a staple food since 7000BC.  It is an excellent source of carbohydrate, energy, vitamins (especially B vitamins), protein and calcium (white bread is a major source of calcium in the Western diet).

 

As a result of travel and exposure to other cuisines, consumer tastes are becoming more ‘international’, especially where sandwich-alternative products such as wraps, pittas and sub rolls are concerned.  And now, post-recession, there is a return to ‘premiumisation’ with consumers expecting more than just white, sliced options when dining out.

Breads of the World

Our extensive, Mazhar brand range of naan bread from Butt Foods is made with premium ingredients to produce soft, moist bread that makes the perfect accompaniment.  Our folded naan flatbreads make fantastic sandwich-alternatives, too.  But for maximum impact, caterers can serve our Mega Naan – at nearly 2ft long it will make everyone’s head turn and provides fantastic ‘theatre’ at the table, especially if served on its own display stand!

 

The American classic, the sub roll, is fast becoming a UK favourite – and no wonder.  Our Big Softy sub rolls from Butt Foods are soft, moist and ready-sliced making them easy-to-serve and easy-to-eat.  The 11.5” option offers consumers real visual impact and value-for-money; the 8” version is perfect for standard menus.

 

Pittas and wraps are in the fastest growing bread category and offer the most exciting shapes and flavours.  Our own-brand, KaterBake, provides caterers with plain or wholemeal versions but for something very different, chefs can try our Lebanese Flatbread (khoubez) – a traditional, thin flatbread that doesn’t crack when rolled or folded making it an ideal sandwich carrier.

 

Central Foods has been supplying frozen food wholesalers and large, national account caterers with gluten-free products since 2009.  As customer demand has increased, so has our range, which now includes over 35 lines, x19 of which are also dairy-free.  From centre-of-the-plate items, bread, burgers and sausages to pizza, cakes, desserts and canapés, our range has something for every caterer’s menu.
