Add some wow to your menu with a bao
Bao buns are still one of the hottest street food trends.
Conveniently, they lend themselves perfectly to a range of different serving situations, which is handy for foodservice operators who need to be flexible with their offering as we navigate out of this uncertain time.
The perfect street food, try serving bao buns as part of a bento box, ideal for both takeaway or onsite serving.
Also known as hirata buns, bao buns are steamed and folded, and usually served warm, filled with slow-cooked meat, crunchy salad and pickles, and sticky sauce for delicious, tasty bite-size snacks.
They can be used for both sweet and savoury options.
The frozen bao buns we supply to the foodservice sector have the added advantage of being suitable for vegans and vegetarians. This means it’s easy to include a vegan friendly bao bun option on the menu – something that’s essential, given the rising demand for plant-based dining.
Sweet or savoury
Try filling your bao buns with BBQ pork and pickled vegetables or sautéed mushrooms, onions and vegetables of your choice. A veggie option could include jackfruit or tofu.
Or why not opt for chocolate hazelnut spread with sliced banana or cream cheese, sliced figs and honey for a sweet treat – it’s delightful!
“Bao buns are really flying off the shelves at the moment,” explains Gordon Lauder, MD of Central Foods. “They’re incredibly popular. With their unique fluffy texture, hand-held size and shape there’s really nothing else like them.
“They’re versatile, taste delicious and are super easy to serve. They truly are one of the hottest street food trends in food service.”
The frozen bao buns offered by Central Foods are approximately 50g each and supplied in pack sizes of two x 30, which many wholesalers will split into single boxes of 30 for operators who prefer a smaller case size. It’s easy to add bao buns to your menu, with Central Foods. Take a look here.
